A ‘Rocky’ to Call My Own

Kendall has taken up boxing at the gym. He loves it and may I add he looks both very attractive and very scary hitting the heavy bag. Shall I call him Kendall Balboa?

Here is an incognito shot I took while on the bike watching American Idol (that’s more my style workout).

I’m so glad I have a husband that will help me stay active and in shape.

The Temple

Last Saturday I was set-apart to be an Ordinance worker at the temple. I will be spending 5 hours one night a week at the temple volunteering my time. I am so excited to learn and grow closer my Savior as I serve in His Holy House.

Wanna Cookie?

Today has been a wonderful day. The sun was shining, and my husband was sweeter than ever. We were even on time to church, which was wonderful. There is something about weekends: I feel myself when I get to stay at home, get things done around the house and spend time with Kendall.

One of the many “cherries on top” today was making cookies. Kendall helped me, and together we made up my batch of chocolate chip cookies with a few little secrets that make them DELICIOUS.

Chocolate Chip

We then went on a walk in the beautiful sunshine and delivered our cookies to: our next-door neighbors (not home…so we left a note. We don’t know their names so we just called them “neighbors.”), a woman down the street named Marisol (I helped her shovel her walks one day and I wanted to say hello again), and my visiting teaching companion, Sarah. I LOVE taking treats to people. I think it’s one of the better feelings one can feel…and it’s made even better when your husband does it with you!

Plus these little secrets:

  • Add 3x’s the amount of vanilla called for
  • Add a package of dry vanilla pudding mix
  • Decrease the amount of white sugar by 1/8 cup
  • Decrease the amount of brown sugar by 1/8 cup
  • Add a bit of milk (Tablespoon)

And don’t forget to take them to someone you know and love or someone you want to get to know better!

More on Guernsey

I am well into part-two of “The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.” I am finding myself wishing I could go to Guernsey and meet Dawsey, Isola, Amelia, and Kit; and of course I would love to stroll the fields of wild flowers with Juliet Ashton.

Some pictures of the mystifying British Isle:

Juliet and her relationship with 4-year-old Kit remind me so much of my dear friend Stephanie White. Stephanie is BEAUTIFUL inside and out. She is intelligent  witty, loving and so much fun! I’ll love her forever. Steph Spisksteph castle

And So It Begins

I officially feel like a married woman now. I’m all settled into a “married people” ward, and with that comes Relief Society Activities. I was asked to be in charge of Book Club. Luckily, Provo City Library has book club sets with “How to guides” on how to run a book club, or I would be lost…I’m still just kinda making it up as I go.

Book Club

Set up for Book Club Week #2

This month we are reading “The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society” by: Mary Ann Shaffer. Thank you Cindy for the recommendation. It is a book completely composed of letters; set right after WWII. It takes you back to a time where life was slower and people were appreciative of everything good. Plus, as an extra bonus, the protagonist (Juliet Ashton) is witty, a bit snappy, and a little bit of a 1940’s feminist…but still a romantic. It’s a good, simple read and I highly recommend it.

Dry Erase Love

So, my husband and I love dry erase markers. I love them for making To-Do lists and calendaring and he loves them for making love notes and pictures.

I found this on our bedroom mirror one night…It’s Kendall and I..can’t you tell?

I still have the “You’re Beautiful” up after about two weeks.

Panko

Panko What?

panko

Yeah, that’s what I thought too. I was reading a recipe

from my favorite recipe site (melskitchencafe.com), and it called for “Panko” bread crumbs. Hmm…don’t have that in my kitchen. Turns out they are deep fried bread crumbs. SIGN ME UP!

So, on my next trip to the grocery store, I picked up a box.

For dinner the other night, I made Potato Wedges and Chicken Strips with the oh so wonderful Panko Bread Crumbs. A new favorite.

For the chicken, I basically just used the same bread crumb mixture as the Potato Wedges.

Valentines Day

vday

With a lot of persuasion, Kendall got me to spend a bit of money so we could go out to dinner on our first Valentines Day as a Mr. and Mrs.

Deciding where to go is always a tough one, I wanted Chinese…and well, he didn’t. But, we ended up settling on Vietnamese food. Turns out there is a place right down the street from our humble abode. It ended up being a lot of fun, and the food wasn’t half bad. Biggest bonus: our meal was only $13.00 for both of us AND I had left overs. So, I thought I’d be generous, and I gave the 15 year old and 12 year old who happened to be working a whoppin’ $5.00 tip.

Happy Valentines Sweet Heart. Thank you for talking me into going out to dinner. It’s one of our favorite things to do and I’m so glad we got to do it after so long.

I’ll Never Let Go

With a weekend in Moab and a husband making me dinner I am one lucky gal.

This weekend, Kendall and I went to Moab to visit my sister Lisa. She is living there and working at Dead Horse Point State Park.We stayed at her place (which felt a little bit like sleeping in an ice box) and she showed us the sites. Lisa had a great time being a tour guide and taking lots of pictures of us! She is a great photographer, not to mention the “hostess with the mostess”. She fed us like Kings.

It was a great trip, but I had a little anxiety on the way home. Kendall, however, came to the rescue once again and told me to relax tonight while he makes dinner. Gosh I love him. If it came to it, I’d let Kendall share my raft with me in the middle of the freezing Atlantic…rather than let him sink to the bottom of the ocean. (Just one-up’d ya there Rose).

p.s. He folded my napkin into a heart. (He just said: “That’s right I did.”)
